Array Stitching
For the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022), the Wooly Pixel team was tasked with processing high resolution multi-camera arrays and to deliver final-quality “stitches” both for final picture and for handoff to other vendors for CGI.
The team was able to quickly turn around a large number of ‘Lat-Long’ images (example below) and sample FOV conversions to enable directorial previewing of the full field of view in each set of arrays.

The ‘Lat-Long’ image is the intermediary step in delivering final quality array shots.
Lat-Long creation
The Wooly Pixel team processed all camera arrays into a “Lat-Long” format image, which could be later projected onto a sphere and rendered with any FOV to mimic a wide format camera.
Final Output
Using multiple high resolution cameras allows for flexibility especially suited for aerial work. With minor additional cleanup necessary along borders, this workflow enabled a wide range of creative options for reframing, punch-ins, and even animating camera rotations to track CGI elements or hit story beats.
